Senior Reservoir Engineer

Profile Senior Reservoir Engineer

Our client has in recent years acquired several clusters of land-based fields In Brazil. At current rates, these fields combined have a proved reserves life of > 25 years. The company aims to double existing production from these fields during the coming 3 years. This calls for significant further development drilling and the implementing of new and expanding/optimizing of existing pressure maintenance and possibly EOR projects.
In order to prepare the organization and bring in additional subsurface engineering resources and skills as required to support this ambitious development program. Our client is looking for a Senior Reservoir Engineer who will coordinate the petroleum reservoir engineering planning processes and select, train and develop reservoir engineering and related staff in the use of the tools of the trade, including state of the art reservoir characterizations and simulation techniques.
The position will report to the Asset Development Manager of the Company.

Key technical challenges in the initial years will be to

• Build a sufficiently large peer group of skilled and experienced reservoir simulation engineers, supported by enough subsurface engineers from other disciplines, to firmly establish reservoir simulation as a tool of the trade for the further development planning and performance optimization of maturing reservoirs.
• Drive the selection and introduction of new and improved reservoir management methods in these maturing reservoirs.
• Drive the selection, introduction and subsequent optimization of adequate alternative technologies for the development of the deeper and more complex reservoirs currently not yet applied in the company (e.g. horizontal wells, multiple fractures, multilateral wells) as may be applicable

The profile of the successful applicant will meet the following criteria:
• A Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in the oil and gas business, preferably with one of the major oil companies
• A solid understanding of traditional reservoir engineering methods such as well test interpretation, material balance calculations, production forecasting, recovery factor benchmarking, reserves reporting, pattern design, etc.
• A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a reservoir simulation engineer, with a track record of successful simulation results as witnessed by successfully implemented development projects based on simulation projects she/he has executed.
• A good grip of the underlying physics and the relative importance of such parameters like relative permeability, capillary pressure, viscosity ratio, fractional flow, rock stress and compaction, etc.
• Hands-on experience with the design and performance forecasting of horizontal wells including long reach wells, and multiple-fracture stimulated wells.
• Hands-on experience with the design, implementation and optimization of pressure maintenance and enhanced recovery methods
• Experience with working in integrated teams, both with subsurface disciplines and together with operations, project and asset teams. At least 3 years of experience as a team leader of such teams.
• Hands-on experience with developing project economics and applying project toll-gating principles.
• Preference for a candidate who possesses at least conversational fluency in Portuguese.

Other aspects of the position:

The successful applicant will be results oriented, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment supporting a high activity level. She/he will have a passion for building diverse, effective teams, stimulating and developing people, finding and selecting the right person for each job, and motivating his own staff and other team members to achieve optimal results together.

The preferred candidate will be familiar with the South American culture, and be willing to learn Portuguese if not already mastering this language.

For the successful candidate, this position offers further growth and career opportunities.
