Profile Specialist Geophysicist (P573)

We are seeking a Specialist Geophysicist This is a dynamic role and is crucial for the exploration and development of the oil and gas resources of our client.

This position involves being seconded to our esteemed client’s offices in the UAE, offering a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Data Acquisition: Play an active role in planning and coordination department 2D, 3D and 4D seismic acquisition activities and monitor seismic acquisition. This includes participation in organizing the tender, design and selection of acquisition geometry and parameters, selection of processing and re-processing sequence and parameters, supervision of the seismic contractor and quality control of all intermediate and final products.
  • Data Processing: Plan and coordinate the 2D/3D/4D seismic processing and re-processing activities and monitor processing and re-processing activities
  • Seismic Interpretation: Analyse seismic data to identify subsurface structures, faults, and potential hydrocarbon traps. Collaborate with geologists and reservoir engineers to integrate seismic interpretation into overall reservoir characterization and modelling for field development. Will also participate in coordination of the Department seismic interpretation and reservoir characterization activities, including supervision and coaching of seismic interpretation staff and quality control of the interpretation work carried out.
  • Reservoir Characterization: Contribute to the understanding of reservoir properties, such as porosity, lithology type, and fluid content, through seismic inversion and interpretation. Assist in defining reservoir boundaries and assessing the economic viability of potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
  • Rock Physics Modeling: Develop and apply rock physics models that establish the relationship between seismic attributes, reservoir properties (e.g., porosity, permeability, lithology), and fluid content. Calibrate these models using well data to ensure accuracy.
  • Pore Pressure Prediction: Estimate pore pressure and overburden pressure in the reservoir using seismic velocity data. Implement normal compaction trend (NCT) analysis to understand the expected pressure behaviour with depth.
  • Reservoir Property Estimation: Utilize prestack and poststack seismic inversion techniques to derive high-resolution property volumes, including porosity, permeability, and saturation.
  • Employ AVO (amplitude variations with offset) analysis to estimate rock and fluid properties. Implement VVAz, AVAz inversion techniques to estimate fracture properties, including fracture orientation, density, and azimuthal anisotropy.
  • Uncertainty Analysis: Conduct sensitivity analysis and uncertainty assessments to quantify the range of possible reservoir scenarios. Use Monte Carlo simulations and other statistical techniques to address uncertainties in the reservoir characterization.
  • Integration with Dynamic Data: Integrate static reservoir characterization data with dynamic reservoir data, such as production data and pressure measurements. Use this integrated information to optimize reservoir management and production strategies.
  • Prospect Evaluation: Evaluate exploration play, leads and prospects and assess the potential for discovering new hydrocarbon reserves. Provide input into drilling decisions based on geophysical analyses and interpretations.
  • Quantitative Interpretation: Utilize advanced geophysical techniques, such as amplitude variation with offset (AVO) analysis and inversion, to extract quantitative information about subsurface properties.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments related to exploration and development activities, considering geological uncertainties and subsurface complexities.
  • HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment): Adhere to HSE protocols and guidelines to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment during geophysical operations.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Physics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience: Typically, 15 years or more of relevant experience in geophysics or a related field.
  • Experience in Middle East carbonate reservoirs is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in geophysical data acquisition, processing, and interpretation. Familiarity with industry-standard geophysical software tools for seismic processing and interpretation such as Petrel.
  • Seismic Data Analysis: Experience in interpreting 2D and 3D seismic.
  • Geophysical Imaging: Understanding of geophysical imaging techniques, including seismic reflection and refraction methods.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Ability to perform quantitative analysis of seismic data to estimate geological parameters such as depth, velocity, and density.
  • Modeling and Inversion: Experience with geophysical modeling and inversion techniques to derive subsurface properties.
  • Geological Knowledge: A solid understanding of geological concepts and their integration with geophysical data.
  • Seismic Survey Design: Skill in designing and planning seismic surveys to meet exploration or reservoir monitoring objectives.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, petrophysicists, and other specialists in multidisciplinary teams in ADNOC TEC.
  • Field Experience: experience in field operations related to geophysical data acquisition is a pre.
